ACAP is a comprehensive program designed to prepare separating Service Members, Federal Employees, and their family members, for the civilian workplace.

ACAP includes military pre-separation briefings and job search training.

ACAP does NOT include every aspect of transition such as, transportation appointments, on-the-job-training programs, or out placement.

ACAP is an official on-duty Army program, fully supported by the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of the Army

  • When should a soldier start the ACAP process?

Those separating from active duty may start the ACAP process up to 360 days prior to separation.

Retirees may start the ACAP process up to 2 years prior to retirement.

What is ACAP? When do I start?

Soldiers separating through quick chapters, medical boards, or late decisions should visit ACAP as soon as possible after notification.

Orders are NOT mandatory. When adhering to these time frames, leaders will notice that the ACAP process is not a hindrance to mission requirements.

The Pre-Separation Briefing is required for all soldiers by the National Defense Authorization Act (Public Law 102-484) not later than 90 days prior to separation. Strict adherence to the time requirement protects the unit and better serves the soldier.

On average, an E-6 or below (with less than a Bachelors Degree) who completes ACAP will earn $7,300.00 more per year than someone who does not utilize ACAP services.

ACAP is a recruiting multiplier: 83% of those who complete ACAP would recommend the Military as a career.

The Army has benefited from over $100 million (35%) decrease in Unemployment Insurance costs since 1992. This decrease leaves more dollars for mission operations.
