Introduction
One
of
the
famous
sightseeing
in
the
Department
Gard
is
the
PONT
DU
GARD,
built
by
the
Romans.
In
case
someone
pay's
attention
by
driving
or
walking
through
this
region
in
the
direction
of
the
"Cévennen",
there
are
many
more
bridges
and
viaducts
to
see,
but
they
are
not
as
old
as
the
PONT
DU
GARD.
Most
of
these
buildings
belong
to
an
old
railway
network......
Little
History
An
important
railroad
line
was
opened
in
1880
from
Lyon
to
Nîmes
on
the
Right
Bank
of
the
Rhone.
The
length
of
its
course
in
the
Gard
is
90
km.
It
serves
important
localities
such
that
Pont
-
St.Esprit,
Bagnols-sur-Cèze,
Villeneuve-lès
-
Avignon,
Beaucaire,
as
well
as
other
county
towns.
Mainly
conceived
to
support
the
artery
"noble"
of
the
left
bank,
this
line
is
still
in
use
for
freights.
In
1870,
a
committee
is
created
for
achieve
a
line
passing
by
Uzès.
During
the
same
period,
when
the
line
Lyon
to
Nîmes
was
in
service,
lines
of
the
City
Martinet
to
St.
Julien-les-Fumades
and
Uzès
to
Remoulins
were
built.
Their
continuations
of
St.
Julien-les-Fumades
to
Uzès
and
Remoulins
to
Beaucaire
were
opened
three
years
later
in
1883.

is
the
old
station
at
Uzès.
