Insight Into Cancer

Cancer, dear Cancer..luna de nuestras almas..

You are so tender. You are so tough. You are the green grass beneath us when we fall. Still sometimes, you tend to make us itchy afterward, just as a reminder of how we almost got hurt. Don't think that we mind, dear one, although we sometimes gripe about your "stinginess." I know you'd give it all if you knew that leaner times would never come. But we all know better so thanks for having our backs, little turtle.

When you think of Cancer people, remember that they are here to keep us alive when our bravado and flippancy strays beyond its own limits. They complain when we are reckless, or spendthrifts, because that complaining acts as a barbed wire fence that keeps us from engaging in those activities with reckless abandon.

They hold onto their money when they can, (which is usually), and take great pride in keeping the amount that they have on hand to themselves, so that they can "come to the rescue" when everyone else is broke.

Cancer folks are accused of being stingy. This is absolutely not true. They are conservative with resources(unless there's good food involved..but it had better be amazing), and with good reason. If the grass that cows ate were to give up every last morsel, including its roots, that plants could no longer feed anyone. Including itself.

Cancer is that grass, and so they fear not being able to do what they cherish most: caring for others.
As the mighty hip-hop prophet Coolio reminds us: "You can't help me, if you can't help yourself."

Love,
