How to Install Microsoft Agent and the Agent Characters for Text-to-Speech Capability

  1. Learn more about Microsoft Agent technology at www.microsoft.com/msagent
  2. Get the Agent software from www.microsoft.com/msagent/downloads.htm
  3. Follow the instructions, but you should install the following:

The Scanning Shapes templates do not support the speech recognition component download.

After you have installed the Agent technology support software and the characters, you have to be sure that an instance of an Agent Control exists in your slideshow for the Agent to work. The installed Agent Control will also prevent error messages when you open a slideshow that has a scanShapes3 Visual basic module in it.

If you intend to use a version 3 template as a starting point (like scanShapes3b.ppt) the Agent Control reference is already inserted into the templates.

However, if you are starting from scratch you will need to inert the Agent Control somewhere in your slideshow. Here's how:

    1. Open a PowerPoint Slideshow and select Slide from the View menu.
    2. Make sure that Control Toolbox is checked under the Toolbars choice from the View menu.
    3. Click on the button on the Control Toolbox bar that looks like it has a tiny wrench and hammer called 'More Controls'
    4. Scroll down and select Microsoft Agent Control 2.0 from the list of controls.

That's it. Once the Agent Control is in your show you can import scanShapes3b.bas and any other modules and userforms to prepare your presentation to support text-to-speech.
